Blood donors are “critically needed” across Northwest Georgia this month, according to the American Red Cross.

As July continues, Red Cross officials continue to stress that blood and donors are needed to support lifesaving transfusions this summer, with all blood types in demand — especially type O.

“As July continues, so does the critical need for blood donors,” American Red Cross Regional Communications Manager Suzanne Lawler said. “Right now, the American Red Cross asks donors to make and keep appointments this month to support lifesaving transfusion needs all summer long.”

Northwest Georgia residents will have plenty of upcoming opportunities to donate blood at events throughout the month.

    Donation events

    July 16:♦ Chatsworth First Baptist Church, 121 W. Market St. — 1 to 6 p.m.

    July 18:♦ Cartersville Civic Center, 435 W. Main St. — 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    July 18:♦ Rockmart Community/First Baptist Church, 311 E. Elm St. — 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    July 22:♦ Adairsville First United Methodist Church, 102 S. Main St. — 2 to 7 p.m.

    July 30:♦ Cartersville Civic Center, 435 W. Main St. — Noon to 5:30 p.m.

    July 30:♦ Emerson Municipal Complex, 700 Ga. 293 — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To schedule a time and location to donate, visit RedCrossBlood.org online, download the Red Cross Blood Donor application for your smart phone, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

According to the Red Cross, another way to support its lifesaving mission is to become a volunteer blood donor ambassador at Red Cross blood drives by helping to greet, check-in and thank blood donors to ensure they have a positive donation experience.
