Haunting Google map image could help solve case of woman who vanished moments after happy text to sister

A haunting Google map image could offer a clue in the search for a woman who vanished moments after texting her sister, '"good morning".

Arelie Garcia, 25, sent her sister a seemingly cheery message saying good “good morning” on her way to work on September 22, 2022. However, Arelie, from Salinas California , never showed up to work and has not been seen since. Now, cops are probing whether a Google image of her bright red Honda Accord could shed light on the case.

The image shows the Honda parked on a cliff top along Highway 1, in Big Sur, California - however for the family, the mystery deepens after claiming the image appears to prove Arelie was not driving the car. They explained to police how the young woman has customized her car with suspension, which she typically lowered to the ground when parked - known as slamming.

The abandoned car was not slammed that fateful morning and the driver’s seat was pushed back farther than Arlie would have driven it. Arelie's wallet, keys and phone were still inside her car - with no sign of foul play, reports the New York Post.

Describing the nightmare day, Arelie's family became worried at around 10am on September 22, 2022 when she had stopped answering her texts and had not shown up to work at a car dealership. Her sister Veronica said she had received a message from her that morning. Veronica said: "She pretty much said, ‘Good morning, I love you,’", adding: " My little one – she says that’s her baby – so she would be like, 'I love you and the baby.’”

Police say footage shows Arelie’s driving from leaving the apartment she shares with her mother on Roosevelt Street around 6:30 am with the text to her sister sent around half an hour later. The family have spoken in a new episode of the Dateline, Missing in America Podcast, with Detective Edwin Cruz with the Salinas Police saying when she left home, "no one approached her and there is no indication that her vehicle was followed."

The podcast also raises the possibility of Arelie's disappearance being connected to that of Kayeleigh Gammill, 20- who went missing a month earlier before her body was found off Highway 1 in Big Sur. Detectives tell the family and Dateline there is no evidence linking the two cases and that Arelie’s disappearance is still an open investigation.
