Steinhatchee, FL - Hurricane Debby made landfall in the Florida panhandle early Monday morning, bringing with it a devastating combination of high winds and torrential rain.

The National Hurricane Center issued warnings of catastrophic flooding across a wide swath of the Southeast as Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee,

The Category 1 hurricane packed sustained winds of 80 mph as it came ashore, but it's the potential for record-breaking rainfall that has officials on high alert.

From Georgia to North Carolina, residents are bracing for flooding that could be historic in scale.

Reports indicate Debby's slow movement is exacerbating the situation, allowing for prolonged rainfall and the potential for riverine flooding.

A life-threatening storm surge is also impacting the Florida Big Bend region.

As Debby tracks northward, the hurricane is expected to bring widespread rainfall to Georgia and South Carolina, with some areas potentially receiving up to 30 inches.

Emergency management officials across the region are urging residents to heed evacuation orders and take all necessary precautions to protect life and property.
