    Martin Luther King Middle School in Germantown evacuated due to smoke

    GERMANTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Martin Luther King Middle School in Germantown was evacuated on Tuesday morning after smoke was reported in the building, according to fire officials

    In a post on X at 1:33 p.m., Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said crews were responding to the middle school at 13737 Wisteria Drive. There was an odor and haze present.

    In an update posted from Piringer at 2:12 p.m., firefighters located an overheated and burned-up HVAC belt. No fire occurred, and no injuries were reported.

    Montgomery County Public Schools administration and maintenance were handling repairs as of Tuesday afternoon.
