ACCOG: Gettysburg tourism back on track
Gettysburg has been named the friendliest city in America according to Booking.com and that generosity of spirit transfers to dollars and cents that benefits Adams County residents. “That really speaks to the experiences that Gettysburg provides,” Karl Pietrzak, President of Destination Gettysburg told local leaders at last week’s Adams County Council of Governments (ACCOG) meeting.
Mr. G’s offers top-notch ice cream along with outdoor games and a great vibe
There is perhaps no more recognizable shop in Gettysburg than Mr. G’s Old Fashioned Home Made & Soft Serve. Located at the corner of Baltimore and Lefever Streets, across from Unity Park, the shop is continually surrounded by families visiting Gettysburg, playing the challenging ring game, and relaxing, while they cool off with a cone or sundae.

Democrats Can Defeat Trump Only if They Come Together
American humorist Will Rogers once famously said “I’m not a member of any organized party. I’m a Democrat.” As a lifelong Democrat, that quote has always bothered me because it can ring true. Organizing Democrats can be like herding cats, and organizing effectively to defeat would-be-despot Donald Trump is our biggest challenge right now.
Ike’s Commitment to OVERLORD
Dwight D. Eisenhower was a confident man, secure in the knowledge that his well-earned reputation as a military leader needed no promotion or protection on his part. Four years after the end of World War II, however, his sanguine attitude was shaken. The Army’s Chief of Staff, General J. Lawton Collins, had sent him a draft manuscript of the forthcoming official history of D-Day, “Cross-Channel Attack.”
Likely Reason for Biden’s Debate Performance
Shortly after the debate Thursday night, I wondered whether Biden was ill that night. This was confirmed, he did have a bad cold and hoarseness. But later I saw a clip of Biden at a rally in North Carolina the very next day, where he was vibrant and completely lucid and articulate, with a large crowd cheering him on again and again. A rather quick recovery, I thought!

Guns Get Their Own Category From Card Issuers
Visa Inc. announced plans to categorize sales at gun shops separately, a move applauded by gun control advocates who believe it will help track suspicious gun sales. This decision by the world’s largest payment processor follows similar actions by Mastercard and American Express, both of which plan to categorize gun shop sales under a new merchant code established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Habits
Procrastination is my middle name. I’m a real pro at procrastinating. I’m almost as good as my husband, who used to claim that he’d procrastinate if he could just find the time to get around to it. Our habits seem to have this way of digging deep into our psyches. In fact, some become so entrenched that they even come to define who we are. But the thing about habits is that they can be altered if we care enough to invest time and energy into positive change.

Chevron case: Everything is up for grabs
The catastrophe represented by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the Chevron case puts it among the all-time worst decisions of the Roberts Court – and that’s saying a lot. And in the wall-to-wall coverage, I haven’t seen any reporter who’s addressed the real issue. We’re really paying for the non-specialist, inexperienced, election “horse-race” journalists so prevalent in Washington today.
Happy Birthday, Barcode
This week marks 50 years since commerce met the barcode, a visual symbol whose impact on business has been far more than symbolic. It all started with a red flash in an Ohio supermarket on June 26, 1974, when a pack of Juicy Fruit gum became the first grocery item ever to be scanned via barcode.

Summertime And Poison Ivy
You won’t “need an ocean of calamine lotion” if you can recognize, avoid, and, if necessary, successfully treat poison ivy. Identifying poison ivy can be challenging due to its varying appearances throughout the year. Typically, poison ivy leaves consist of three leaflets, with the middle stem longer than the side stems. Young foliage appears shiny, while older leaves are dull. Mature vines, especially those climbing trees, tend to be hairy. The leaves can be green, red, pink-tinged, yellow, or orange, with smooth, lobed, or toothed edges.
