GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Senator Doug Mastriano (R-33) announced earlier today nearly $2.4 million in state funding to redevelop the former Gettysburg Foundry site in Adams County.

According to Sen. Mastriano, the Gettysburg Foundry site was formerly a metal works factory that closed in the 1990s due to improper disposal of hazardous materials on the property.

The site sat vacant up until ownership changed in 2022, and it was taken over by the Adams County Industrial Development Authority (ACIDA). Since taking over, ACIDA continues to perform the required environmental assessments and remediation in hopes of restoring and redeveloping the 50-acre site.

The plan is to redevelop the site so a future employer can set up a business and hire workers.

“The Commonwealth is taking steps to make properties like the Gettysburg Foundry site viable and attractive to potential employers,” Sen. Mastriano said. “The goal is to get the Gettysburg Foundry site ready so an employer can acquire it, start a new business and staff it with local workers from the community.”

The combined state grants and loans will be used to pay for engineering costs and sitework, which includes demolition of existing structures, crushing concrete to use as fill materials, disposing of remaining materials off the site, and grading the site for drainage.

Altogether, the redevelopment project calls for establishing sanitary sewer connections by installing necessary infrastructure, which includes 70 manholes, thousands of feet of pipe, and a pump station.

Funding for the projects was provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Business in Our Sites program.

According to Sen. Mastriano, the project will cost a little less than $2.4 million with part of the funding coming through a grant of nearly $1 million, and the rest through a loan of more than $1.4 million.

DCED’s Business in Our Sites loan has a 3% interest rate and a 20 year long term.
