Violent Crime is Down Nationwide
PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Violent crime dropped 15.2% across the United States in the first three months of 2024 compared with the same time last year, according to FBI statistics. Some of the most significant drops were in the categories of rape and murder which both fell around 26%. Murder was down 40% in large American cities like New Orleans, Seattle, Philadelphia and Boston.

Drive By Shooting in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Juvenile crime is on the rise in Sioux Falls and it’s more violent. Captain Josh Phillips of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office says deputies witnessed a gun being fired from a car following an assault. That started a pursuit, which ended at 22nd and Willow when the suspect vehicle collided with a pickup. A 17-year-old and two 19-year-olds were arrested on weapons and vehicle theft charges. Officials are still searching for 22-year-old Karissa Becker of Sioux Falls, who fled the scene. There were no serious injuries in the shooting or the accident.
