Santa Rosa Police Seize Fireworks, Firearms Amid July 4th Celebrations, Extra Staffing Continues Through Weekend
The Fourth of July celebrations in Santa Rosa have left the city's police department scrambling to manage the surge in illegal fireworks and associated disturbances. According to a report published by the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD), the department confiscated hundreds of pounds of fireworks and seized two illegally possessed firearms during the holiday festivities. The remainder of the long weekend will see continued upstaffing to address the heightened demand for police services.
SVHS Student Voice speaks out to School District Trustees
Victoria Hernández Padilla, Sonoma Valley High Class of 2024, read an open letter to the Trustees of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District at their June 6 meeting. Hernández Padilla was elected 2023-24 Sonoma High Student Voice, a dual role of President of the Associated Student Body and Student Member of the Board of Trustees. In her letter, she asserts that students feel that their voices, even though often sought in surveys, are not respected and heard, and are not effective in helping guide decisions by the District. Former 99 Cents Only Store to reopen as Dollar Tree in Rohnert Park
A former 99 Cents Only Stores location in Rohnert Park will soon open as a Dollar Tree later this fall. The discount retailer location on Rohnert Park Expressway next to JOANN and a former Burlington location closed in April after its parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and initiated the process to dispose of assets, inventory, owned real estate and store leases.

SANTA ROSA, Calif.—Sonoma Academy recently completed construction of its new 350-seat Community Performing Arts Center. The professional-grade facility will host the school’s theater, music and film productions, as well as serve as a gathering place for the campus and a community resource hosting various types of arts programming. The Community Performing Arts Center was designed by Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) and WRNS Studio, and built by DPR Construction with The Shalleck Collaborative serving as the theatrical consultant.
