Court grants defendant’s motion to suppress evidence obtained during pat-down
SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has granted Kelvin Cabrera Sanchez’s motion to suppress evidence obtained during a police pat-down. In an 18-page order, Judge Camacho said warrantless searches did not comply with any exception, thus “the warrantless searches violated the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.”
Juvenile Associated with Gang Found with Gun at Santa Rosa Transit Mall
A juvenile has been arrested after getting a disturbance with a bus driver at the Santa Rosa Transit mall. Last Friday evening, a bus driver called police to report that a group of young people were challenging him to a fight and showing gang sings with their hands. Police met with the group over a half hour later and searched one juvenile finding a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a pair of brass knuckles. The juvenile was arrested on six felony charges including possession of a loaded firearm in public and possession of a firearm while acting as a participant in a street gang.
