Bridge's history of race crimes resurfaces after dedication to Vietnam War hero
A bridge renamed after a local war hero harbors a nearly century old dark past. Two young Black men were hanged for alleged crimes, and one lived to tell the tale. A crowd of nearly 50 people gathered Aug. 11 to celebrate the renaming of a bridge in honor of a distinguished Navy war hero, Glenn H. Daigle, who grew up in the town of Labadieville. Unbeknownst to all in attendance, 91 years ago the bridge was the site of two lynchings that left one 16-year-old dead, with a terrorizing message hanging from his feet for all to see.

Morgan City Council ordinances target stray animals
The Morgan City Council devoted much of its Tuesday meeting to learning about and approving upcoming events, from a rodeo to a breast cancer awareness event to boxing. But the council also introduced ordinances that continue what’s starting to look like a widespread effort to control stray animals, especially feral cats.
