The Watermark at Morrison Ranch celebrates resident's English heritage 

Residents at The Watermark at Morrison Ranch enjoyed a spot of tea and delicious treats such as cucumber sandwiches and scones during a recent English afternoon tea.

The occasion was part of a year-long series of events at the retirement community called, “What’s on your Bucket List?”

The “What’s on your Bucket List?” events are inspired by residents who share experiences or achievements they wish to accomplish with the community. Resident Dinah McCreery, who was born in England in 1935, was the inspiration for the afternoon tea.

The event was held just before Mother’s Day, a perfect time to bring together McCreery and her children and the many other mothers in the community with their families.

McCreery lived in England until she was 14, when she then moved to the United States after her father accepted a job with a shipping insurance company.

She returned to England in the ’70s and lived there for a few years until she got married. The newlyweds decided to settle down in Arizona, and McCreery worked as an elementary school teacher for 30 years.

Although she loves Arizona, a piece of McCreery’s heart still belongs to England, and she occasionally visits the country with her family. While in England, she enjoys attending the traditional English tea rooms and sharing her love of tea with her children.

The recent English afternoon tea at The Watermark at Morrison Ranch was a way the associates and residents could bring a piece of England to McCreery.

About 50 residents attended the event, and their families were welcome, too. McCreery’s daughter, Gillian Workman, came to enjoy the English treats and spend time with their mother.

“The afternoon tea was wonderful," said Rebecca Mitchell, community life director at Morrison Ranch. "We were able to celebrate Dinah’s heritage and share her love for English tea with the other residents, their families and the associates. We love creating moments for our residents to remember forever."
