A man from Gilead who was considered “armed and dangerous” and led Oxford County sheriffs on a days-long manhunt has been taken into custody.

Jacob McGurn, 28, was arrested around 11 a.m. Monday, News Center Maine reported. McGurn had allegedly fired at another man in the town of Gilead on Thursday, July Fourth, before fleeing the scene.

The Gilead man had also allegedly been involved at a violent scene in Bethel, according to Oxford County officials.

Members of the public were warned about McGurn on Thursday at around 11:30 a.m., and were told not to approach the man if they saw him.

McGurn was apparently involved in a violent confrontation in Bethel prior to the alleged shooting incident in nearby Gilead. When officials investigated both scenes in Bethel and Gilead, several firearms were recovered, according to the sheriff’s office.

McGurn has been charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, terrorizing, domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and driving to endanger.
