This goes to show that you don't have to go to a movie theater to see an summer blockbuster action sequence play out right in front of your eyes. A teenager is being hailed a hero by his community after he helped stop a runway boat on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford, New Hampshire. According to reports, a sailing instructor was in the middle of teaching kids how to sail when a freak accident knocked him out of the boat he was teaching from. One of the children's sailboats tipped over, and its mast just so happened to slam down right on the boat's throttle. The vessel went to full speed, throwing the instructor off and sending the boat into a all-out spiral, right in the middle of a no wake zone. One boater standing by, Jeremy Procon, advised his son to hop on the back of his Jet ski so they could clear the children from the dangerous area, then go after the boat. Once they successfully got all of the kids to safety, Procon and his son Brady set their eyes on stopping the runaway boat. As for the plan they had, there wasn't much time to think, as Brady told
WMUR News : "It just came to me. I didn't really think. I just did it." Brady's father matched the circular motion of the boat that was stuck at full throttle, and in one brave leap of faith, the 17-year-old launched himself off the Jet ski and into the boat. He landed hard, but once he was aboard, he had the boat slowed down and back in control in a matter of seconds. Brady hadn't thought it through all that much, but not trying to be too precise probably helped in the boat rescue's success. And as the teenager explained, he didn't realize the danger of the situation until after it was all over: "I'm a little, I'm realizing what I did, a little bit scared, but it was fun, I'd do it again."
The footage of the rescue itself is mesmerizing. I can't imagine a lot of people would be courageous enough to do what Brady Procon did. But considering that the teenager will ship off to join the Navy in the fall, it makes sense that someone entering into our armed forces would be willing to help while staring danger down.
