ADM Defense Comes Up Huge in Football Season Opener
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football team won an exciting season opener on Friday night. The Tigers hosted the Newton Cardinals in Adel, where they won by a final score of 13-8. The first quarter was scoreless as both teams had their opportunities to score. However, in the second quarter, ADM broke the score with a 43-yard pass from Junior Quarterback Hudson Shull to Junior Reed Obstarczyk to lead 7-0. Senior Linebacker Grant Engleman got a big interception in the third against Cardinals QB Senior Caden Klein. Tigers’ Kicker Ethan Asche had a 24-yard field as time expired going into the halftime break to give ADM the 10-0 advantage.

Bears Can’t Catch Tigers In Season Opener
BROOKLYN - In a rematch of a 2023 8-man playoff game that went down to the wire, the Bears were looking to exact revenge against Iowa Valley in their 2024 season opener. It didn’t happen. The Tigers took the lead for good late in the first quarter of a 76-67 shootout and won despite the Bear's furious comeback in the second half. BGM fell to 0-1 and will hit the road again Friday when they play at Meskwaki Settlement School. The Warriors did not play in the first week and will be hosting the Bears in their first game of the year.

Newton’s volleyball team claimed the Lynnville-Sully tournament championship last night. The Cardinals won six straight sets, defeating host Lynnville-Sully 21-14 and 25-23, PCM 21-16 and 21-16, and Twin Cedars 21-14 and 21-11 Delaney Woollums had 25 kills, 16 digs, and two aces for the Cardinals. Macy Lampe 17 kills, 15 digs, and four aces. Chloe Swank added 32 digs and one ace. Newton lost to PCM in straight sets at the Cardinal Early Bird Invitational at Newton High School Tuesday, The Cardinals are now 5-1 on the year and will host #9 Dallas Center-Grimes next Tuesday, September 9th at Newton High School. Four Newton Sports Teams In Action Today
Four teams from Newton are in action today. The Cardinals Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams compete for the first time this season. Both squads will be at Marshalltown Community College for a meet with ten other schools including Marshalltown, North Mahaska, and South Tama. The runners will start at 4:30 p.m. The Cardinals Girl Swim team will host a triangular tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Newton YMCA. This is also their first competition of the season. Tipton and Williamsburg are the other teams competing. Newton’s volleyball team follows up their season opening invitational this past Tuesday with a trip to Lynnville-Sully High School this evening. The Marshalltown Bobcat Boys Golf team traveled north to Mason City for the Dick Garth Invite, played at Highland Park Golf Course. The Bobcats held 3 of the top 4 spots with Freshman Joe Greazel leading the way earning 2nd place overall shooting at 77.
