    Grand Country-Fried Layered Biscuits

I am thrilled to present to you today one of my favorite biscuit recipes. What makes these biscuits stand out from the rest? The key lies in the delicate, fluffy layers that come together to provide a truly mouth-watering experience.

    Ingredients:

    • 2 1/2 cups of self-rising flour
    • 2 heaping tablespoons of butter
    • 1/2 cup of water
    • 1 cup of milk
    • 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of canola oil

Note: For those who are unfamiliar, heaping refers to the practice of scooping or piling ingredients above the rim of the measuring tool.

    Instructions:

In a bowl, sift 2 1/2 cups of self-rising flour. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut 2 heaping tablespoons of butter into the flour.

Now, add 1/2 cup of water and 1 cup of milk. Mix the dough just until it comes together. If needed, add a little extra milk or water.

Next, grease the palms of your hands with cooking oil or butter and pat the dough down flat on a floured surface.

To create layers in the dough, begin by folding one side over to meet the other side. Using greased hands, gently pat the dough down flat. Next, fold the opposite side over and continue alternating sides with each fold. Repeat these steps a total of ten times to achieve the desired result.

With the palms of your hands, pat the dough down once again to about a half-inch thickness. I just eyeball it.

Cut the biscuit dough into rounds. Today, I used a wide-mouth jar because I will be making breakfast sandwiches out of the biscuits that I am preparing. You can cut your biscuits out to form your preferred shapes.

Once your dough is cut out, allow the biscuits to set for 15 minutes.

To begin, heat 1/4 cup of canola oil in a large skillet over high heat until it is very hot. Carefully add the biscuits to the hot oil, being mindful of the temperature. Adjust the heat as necessary to maintain a consistent frying temperature.

Cover the skillet with a lid and fry the bottoms of the biscuits for approximately 5 minutes, or until they have risen and the bottoms are a golden brown color.

Using a spatula, carefully flip each biscuit over and continue frying for an additional 5 minutes, or until both sides are golden brown.

Remember to replace the lid on the skillet while the biscuits finish cooking to ensure they are cooked through evenly.

Add more oil only if it's needed.

With a spatula, remove your biscuits from the skillet. Place them on a paper towel-lined plate, if needed.

    Serve and enjoy!
