Boyle, Stabler honored at Commodity Classic
CENTREVILLE, Md. — The Maryland Grain Producers Association honored two stalwarts in the grain industry during the Maryland Commodity Classic. Gene Boyle received the Dr. James R.Miller Award for outstanding service to state’s grain industry and Drew Stabler was handed the inaugural Lawrence E. Meeks Farmer Lifetime of Service Award July 25 at the Queen Anne’s 4-H Park.
Frederick distillery wins Maryland’s best whiskey, Hagerstown’s Meinelschmidt crafts 3rd best cocktail in state
26 July 2024- In its first year, the Maryland Grain Producers Association and Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Maryland’s Best program, have named Frederick’s McClintock Distilling the winner of the 2024 Maryland’s Best Whiskey competition. It is for whiskeys produced in the state, made with at least 50 percent or more local grain.

SUN Bucks program offers help to DMV families with groceries this summer
ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — Families looking for extra help with groceries this summer could qualify for a new program called SUN Bucks, which provides $120 for each child. “We think of summer as a fun time no school, play all day, but in reality for a lot of families, school breakfast and lunch may be the most nutritious meals there they can afford,” said Joe Liu, the Director of Advocacy and Public Policy at Capital Area Food Bank. “When the schools are closed, families don't have that extra support, and so they have to buy more groceries. They've cost them a lot more, and we know how much inflation has affected the price of food every time we go to the store. And so this extra $120 benefit. It helps close the gap so that families can make sure their kids have healthy food all year long.”
