Clouds & Showers Overnight, More Storms Sunday and Monday
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Mostly cloudy skies remain over eastern Iowa as a few scattered showers form late tonight and early Sunday morning. You might notice over the next couple of days that the sky is a bit hazy and has a grayish-white color to it. That’s because we’re still dealing with wildfire smoke in our upper atmosphere from Canadian and western wildfires. While this smoke will give us vibrant colors in our sunrises/sunsets and hazy skies during the day, it will stay thin and elevated through the weekend. Therefore, air quality impacts are expected to be minimal. You can always check the latest air quality measurements on KCRG.com. Mostly cloudy skies linger through the overnight hours as lows drop into the upper 60s and low 70s. A few scattered showers are expected to form late tonight and early Sunday morning.

Those facilities, representing about a third of all Iowa hospitals, are located mostly in rural areas where birth numbers have plummeted. In some Iowa counties, annual numbers of births have fallen by three-quarters since the height of the baby boom in the 1950s and ’60s, when many rural hospitals were built or expanded, state and federal records show.
