New Iowa traffic cameras law puts Dubuque’s plan on hold
DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - Dubuque’s plans to install automatic traffic enforcement cameras will have to wait until at least 2026. A new Iowa law limiting how cities and counties can use traffic cameras went into effect July 1st. It creates standards for citations drivers can receive and puts a two year moratorium on new traffic cameras.
Charges dismissed against Illinois man accused of threatening apartment residents with firearm
All charges have been dismissed against an Illinois man accused of threatening two individuals with a loaded gun in Coralville. 30-year-old Nico Johnson-Williams of Calumet City reportedly arrived uninvited at a 4th Avenue apartment last October and escorted one of the victims at gunpoint to the doorway of the residence and pushed him through the threshold. Police say he then re-entered the apartment and pointed his gun at the other victim, demanding that they find his car keys. When they were retrieved and given to Johnson-Williams, he reportedly chambered a round in his firearm and told the victims to run.
Cedar Rapids Animal Control waiving adoption fees on 45 cats and dogs
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - On Friday, Cedar Rapids Animal Control announced that all of the shelter’s dogs and 23 of its cats have no adoption fees. Staff members say that a generous donation to the shelter gave them the ability to waive the fees for all of the dogs and some of the cats that have been there for several months. The other cats only have $25 fees for the month of July.

Cedar Rapids Firefighter Injured After 30-Foot Fall
(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Cedar Rapids firefighter is in the hospital after falling 30-feet while fighting a fire. Crews were called to the former Diamond V Mills site at 436 G Avenue NW this (Friday) morning. The Department says when fire crews arrived, people were seen evacuating the building. The city boarded up the building a couple of weeks ago. The firefighter has serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Woman Dies In Early Morning Waterloo Crash
One person has died after a one vehicle crash in Waterloo on Friday morning. Around 6:15 AM, Waterloo Police and Fire Rescue were dispatched to the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Drive to a report of a single vehicle crash. When crews arrived, they found a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigation into the crash continues. No identity has been released until notification of family members.
DNR fines Marion company accused of exposing workers to asbestos
A Marion real estate investment company did not take required safety precautions when its workers removed about 20,000 square feet of asbestos-containing floor tile from a former nursing home it demolished last year, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Albia Trap Team goes to state championships
The Albia Clay Target trap team participated in the Iowa Clay Target Trap Championships on June 4 and 9 in Cedar Falls. Twenty-four individuals from Albia and Chariton represented the Albia team with six squads and the individuals competing over the four different levels of the event. Each shooter completed two rounds of 100 birds for the competition.
Iowa City man arrested after reported series of UIHC assaults
An Iowa City man was charged with assault after three alleged attacks while being treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. According to police, 19-year-old Joshua Logan of the Ability United Group Home on Plainview Drive was at the facility on April 24th around 5pm when he allegedly hit a health care provider several times and pulled them down to the ground by the hair. Logan also kicked the provider multiple times. The victim suffered several cuts, broken fingernails, and bruising.

Iowa Football: Top 5 remaining must-have recruits for 2025 class
The 2025 recruiting class for the Iowa Hawkeyes is going to be a bit of a step back from 2024. The Hawkeyes are currently ranked No. 57 nationally by 247Sports' rankings and 17th in the Big Ten. Washington Woman Arrested on Felony Drug Warrants
On June 29th at approximately 10:49 pm the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Cedar Rapids Police Department that they had a subject in custody that was wanted in Washington County. They arrested 49-year-old Wendee Chalupa of Washington on three counts of controlled substance violation, a Class C Felony, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, a Class D Felony, and failure to affix drug stamp, a Class D Felony. Bond was set at $40,000 and extradition arrangements were made with the Washington County Jail. Chalupa later bonded out. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
