Dr. Rich Castillo named founding dean of the UNCP School of Optometry
PEMBROKE — During a special called meeting on July 9, the Board of Trustees named Dr. Rich Castillo the founding dean of the School of Optometry at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The announcement comes two months after UNCP received unanimous approval from the UNC System Board of Governors to establish a Doctor of Optometry program.
City of Hickory receives state grant for downtown streetscape improvements
The City of Hickory is one of seven grant recipients in the State of North Carolina’s new Rural Downtown Economic Development program. Last month, Governor Roy Cooper and the North Carolina Department of Commerce announced the award of an $850,000 grant to the City of Hickory to assist with two streetscape projects in the downtown Hickory area.

TIC Sells Styers Ferry in Winston-Salem to Lennar
Trilogy Investment Co. (TIC), a pioneering build-to-rent (BTR) development company, announces the sale of Styers Ferry to Lennar, one of the nation’s leading home builders. This 102-lot single-family subdivision is located on Styers Ferry in Winston Salem. Phase one closed in May 2024 for $2.5 million, with the second and third phases closing over the next nine months. This represents TIC’s second successful closing with Lennar.
