Max's Trader Days & Water Dog Races kicks off for Labor Day Weekend
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - One of the largest events at the Allen County Fairgrounds kicked off Friday for the Labor Day weekend!. Max's Trader Days and Water Dog Races returned for another year of residents and shoppers to relax and shop. In addition to purchasing items at vendors, the weekend will have plenty of other fun, including the high-energy water dog races, enjoying your favorite foods, karaoke, and camping. Organizers say that there are over 1,800 in attendance this year, a statistic that helps to unite the community and funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars into the local economy.
"Raise the Roof" fundraiser hopes to reopen the doors of Mama Dots Soul Food Kitchen
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A Lima business is asking the community for their support to get the doors back open. Mama Dot is well known for her soul food and has fed hundreds over the years. The restaurant opened in 2012 at the corner of Third and Saint Johns. In 2022, the South Lima Community Development Corporation held an event to improve the outside of the restaurant. Work was to then go inside to make improvements due to a leaky roof, but family medical needs had to come first. Then last December, a gas leak forced them to close the doors. They will be holding a "Raise the Roof" fundraiser this Sunday to hopefully get a new roof and move repairs inside.

The Lima Family YMCA holds first-ever open water fitness swim
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - If you were looking to cool down from these hot temperatures while getting in an outdoor workout, the Lima YMCA had you covered. The local Y hosted its first-ever open-water fitness swim over at the Ottawa Metro Park. Anyone from ages 14 and up was welcome to come out and tackle a swim between 500 to 1500 yards. The event allowed swimmers the opportunity to gain open water and triathlon training experience.
