Police are investigating a report of shots fired in Glasgow Park on Monday night.

The incident happened at 7:41 p.m. at the popular park at the intersection of Del. 896 and U.S. 40, according to Sgt. Andrea Botterbusch, a spokesperson for the New Castle County Police Department.

Witnesses reported hearing the shots near the basketball court, but officers did not find any gunshot victim.

The situation remains “an active and ongoing incident,” said Botterbusch, who did not provide any further details.

Concerns about crime at Glasgow Park took centerstage last summer when a series of high-profile incidents prompted alarm among many park users. Incidents last year included a random assault, a shooting during a late-night party, a bomb threat that closed the park for hours and the arrest of a 48-year-old man caught trying to have sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Police held a public meeting at the park last July in an attempt to allay fears, and officials pledged to add more cameras, police patrols and other security measures.
