The host Brunswick team ran into some strong competition in the Virginia Babe Ruth 13-16 year old tournament in Lawrenceville but fought hard to compile a 1-2 record. The team fell 14-2 to Lakeside, the defending state champions, in their opener before rallying to top Western Branch 9-7 in an elimination contest on Saturday. Brunswick was bounced from the tournament after falling 9-4 to Winchester on Sunday.

$361.6 million in new funding awarded to improve I-81
ROANOKE, Va. – The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded more than $361 million, the largest contract to date, to widen I-81. Crews will add an additional Northbound and Southbound Lane between Exit 143 outside of Roanoke and Exit 150 in Botetourt County. They are also modifying ramps and installing traffic lights.

Virginia man convicted in 2021 Marion murder
A Virginia man was convicted of first-degree murder, and other charges, for the 2021 murder of Teresa Greer. 40 year old Jason Whittaker was convicted of first-degree murder, abduction, arson, and animal cruelty. His sentencing is scheduled for November 21 where he will be facing a maximum of two life sentences plus 15 years. Greer’s body was found in a fire-damaged home in Marion on North Chestnut Street.
