Raising Cane's on the way to Glassboro, Washington Township

GLASSBORO — Construction is scheduled to start July 29 on a Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers outlet here.

Demolition started July 1 on the former Rite Aid pharmacy that will become the restaurant's site, said spokeswoman Hannah Henderson.

“We plan to open doors early next year,” she said.

The Glassboro property is at North Delsea Drive (Route 47) and Donald Barger Boulevard, an area where long-traffic stack-ups are common.

The recognition of already heavy traffic in the area led to the borough being gifted a 10-foot-wide easement along the property frontage as a condition of Planning Board approval in January. The easement reserves space for possible road improvements.

At its review hearing then, company representatives said they had the New Jersey Department of Transportation to consider adjusting traffic signal timing to ease congestion.

Now, however, no change is expected for traffic lights at the intersection.

“After working with the developer’s engineer, NJDOT and the developer’s engineer are confident that the current traffic signal timing can accommodate the new traffic demand,” said department spokeswoman Lizzy Galamba.

In Washington Township, demolition has begun for a former Pep Boys store on Black Horse Pike at Ganttown Road, according to a post at the police department's Facebook page.

Raising Cane's received planning board approval for the project in July 2023.

The company at that time said it would build a 65-seat restaurant with a dual drive-thru ordering system.
