GLEN DANIEL, WV (WVNS) – One Liberty High School student will represent West Virginia on the national level.

Liberty freshman, Lillie Runion, will be attending the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists in Boston.

At this prestigious event, students will learn from the world’s top doctors and scientists. Students will also get the opportunity to watch a live surgery.

Runion said it took more than just a high GPA to attend the academy. “My mom, my dad, my church family,” said Runion. “I have raised a lot of money; working hard, baking stuff, bake sales. Personally, and academically, it has been a lot from keeping straight A’s, taking only honors classes, and keeping up with work. It was hard, but anyone can do it, honestly, if they try hard enough.”

Runion said she is excited for the new doors this academy could open for her future educational and career opportunities within the medical field.

Although Liberty and Trap Hill Middle School helped foster her growth in the sciences, Lillie’s passion for the medical field extends far beyond her educational years.

“Even when I was little, I’ve always wanted to help people and do whatever I can to give back to the people that I know in the community,” said Runion. “I have always been interested in the medical field, especially psychology.”

The academy will take place from June 26-28 on one of the campuses at the University of Massachusetts.

On top of all her academic achievements, Runion also competes on the Liberty Volleyball and Dance teams.
