Optum laying off 364 employees in California, many at urgent care facilities
Optum, a health care company owned by UnitedHealth Group, is laying off 364 workers in California, many of them at urgent care facilities.The company is laying off 525 people nationwide.According to a letter from Optum sent to the Employment Development Department, layoffs and departmental closures are being carried out in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.Locations include Glendora, Montebello, Covina, Pasadena, Long Beach, Redlands, Highland, Los Angeles, Beaumont, Irvine, Hayward, El Segundo and Cerritos.Optum didn't give a reason for the layoffs and didn't say if severance pay is being offered. The layoffs will take place in series of eight "waves," starting in September and ending in January.

Rohnert Park Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest on Multiple Drug-Related Charges
Last night, Rohnert Park Police and Fire reported a routine traffic stop that decidedly became anything but ordinary. A Public Safety Officer pulled over a vehicle for a moving violation, quickly escalating when the driver showed signs of being under the influence. According to the City of Rohnert Park Police & Fire, Trevor Sundstrom, the driver, was observed with drug paraphernalia in clear view after a second officer arrived on the scene.
Vintage Wine Estates of Santa Rosa Files for Bankruptcy
Vintage Wine Estates Inc. is filing for bankruptcy. The North Bay Business Journal reports that the Santa Rosa based producer has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization to “establish a fair, structured process for VWE to address outstanding debt obligations while the business pursues the sale of its assets.” They are looking to sell all or nearly all of their assets which include Ace Cider and wine brands B.R. Cohn, Girard, Clos Pegase and Viansa. Vintage recently sold Cosentino Winery of Napa Valley to Gene Wines LLC on Friday for $10.5 million. At of the end of March, Vintage had about $475-million dollars in assets and $400-million in liabilities.

Dave Richards and the Versatran / BlueBird Funny Car team have made a quick turnaround to be ready for this weekend’s DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway. After suffering a sudden mechanical failure in the first round of eliminations at the NHRA Northwest Nationals just outside of Seattle, the Versatran / BlueBird car shook the tires and then took a hard right turn into the wall, causing damage to the chassis and body.
