Optum laying off 364 employees in California, many at urgent care facilities
Optum, a health care company owned by UnitedHealth Group, is laying off 364 workers in California, many of them at urgent care facilities.The company is laying off 525 people nationwide.According to a letter from Optum sent to the Employment Development Department, layoffs and departmental closures are being carried out in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.Locations include Glendora, Montebello, Covina, Pasadena, Long Beach, Redlands, Highland, Los Angeles, Beaumont, Irvine, Hayward, El Segundo and Cerritos.Optum didn't give a reason for the layoffs and didn't say if severance pay is being offered. The layoffs will take place in series of eight "waves," starting in September and ending in January.

Rohnert Park Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest on Multiple Drug-Related Charges
Last night, Rohnert Park Police and Fire reported a routine traffic stop that decidedly became anything but ordinary. A Public Safety Officer pulled over a vehicle for a moving violation, quickly escalating when the driver showed signs of being under the influence. According to the City of Rohnert Park Police & Fire, Trevor Sundstrom, the driver, was observed with drug paraphernalia in clear view after a second officer arrived on the scene.
Vintage Wine Estates of Santa Rosa Files for Bankruptcy
Vintage Wine Estates Inc. is filing for bankruptcy. The North Bay Business Journal reports that the Santa Rosa based producer has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization to “establish a fair, structured process for VWE to address outstanding debt obligations while the business pursues the sale of its assets.” They are looking to sell all or nearly all of their assets which include Ace Cider and wine brands B.R. Cohn, Girard, Clos Pegase and Viansa. Vintage recently sold Cosentino Winery of Napa Valley to Gene Wines LLC on Friday for $10.5 million. At of the end of March, Vintage had about $475-million dollars in assets and $400-million in liabilities.

The previous event of the Western Swing was the NHRA Northwest Nationals July 19-21 at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington. The DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals is the 12th event on the NHRA’s 20-race calendar.

Sonoma State University Hires Former Texas A&M-Texarkana President as Their Interim President
Emily F. Cutrer will serve as the interim president of Sonoma State University. Cutrer was president of Texas A&M University Texarkana for a decade before her retirement in 2022. She was also previously the provost and vice president of academic affairs at California State University San Marcos. Cutrer will officially begin as interim president on August 1st. She will replace former SSU president Mike Lee, who retired after being suspended in May. Lee faced backlash from the California State University system after agreeing to meet certain demands made by pro-Palestinian protesters on campus without prior CSU approval.

Deceased Homeless Woman in Santa Rosa Stabbing Case Identified
A homeless woman who was found stabbed to death on a trail near Downtown Santa Rosa late Sunday night has been identified as 61-year-old Lisa Shiffer-McCool. McCool was found dead on the Prince Memorial Greenway, between Santa Rosa Avenue and A Street. Police say two “persons of interest” were detained for questioning earlier this week, then released. Investigators say there was a fight before the deadly stabbing.
Two Arrests Made in Deadly Jack in the Box Shooting in Santa Rosa From July 2023
Two young men are behind bars in connection with a deadly shooting that happened outside of a Jack in the Box restaurant in Santa Rosa. Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Perez-Mendoza and 19-year-old Christopher Perez-Mendoza of Clearlake were arrested during a traffic stop on Wednesday. The shooting left a 40-year-old man dead almost exactly a year ago, on July 23rd, 2023. The suspects are being held without bail and are due in court tomorrow. Charges have not yet been filed.
