Hillsborough's "Flintstone House" to host high-end sushi pop-up
If you've ever driven north on Interstate 280 towards San Francisco, you've probably spotted what is commonly referred to as the "Flintstone House."Now the unusual Bay Area landmark is being turned into a pop-up restaurant. The home in Hillsborough was built in the 1970s. The builder used concrete and shaped it with mesh frames and inflated balloons that gives it the lumpy, prehistoric look evocative of the classic stone-age cartoon from the 1960s. More recently the owner loaded up on lawn decorations. At one point, city officials and neighbors in Hillsborough even tried to have the property declared a public nuisance. Now the property will be home to the pop-up sushi restaurant fittingly named Stoneage Omakase starting July 12. It will utilize the house's cave-like dining room and diners will get to tour the home with its Flintstones memorabilia.According to social media posts, opening night is planned for July 12th. Patrons will enjoy a 15-course Japanese tasting menu prepared by Chef Masa Sasaki, who earned Michelin stars at his now closed restaurants Maruya and Sasaki. The meals will have a price tag of $230 per person. The initial batch of reservations was reportedly snapped up within 15 minutes when they were made available Thursday.
July is finally here in Rio Nido
We have had some pretty warm days in Rio Nido. It is great to see neighbors basking in the sun, walking their dogs, riding their bicycles and just strolling through the neighborhood. Mornings in Rio Nido are usually cool, sometimes a bit misty or foggy for those of us who prefer getting out and exercising in the mornings. It's also good for your fur babies so their paws don't get burned from the hot concrete.

Healdsburg Cancels Fireworks for Fourth of July 2024
The City of Healdsburg has canceled its fireworks show this Fourth of July, thanks to this especially fire-friendly heat wave passing through. The show was going to be staged at Healdsburg High School, per usual. City officials promised it would be “bigger and better than ever” in 2024. Because they planned to block off the high school sports fields this year “to ensure everyone’s safety,” they said they wanted the fireworks to be easily viewable all across town, “with most fireworks reaching heights of 200 feet and beyond.”
Former Visitors’ Center for Rent
The City of Healdsburg has a place for the right business, either commercial or nonprofit, with a desire for a public-facing location close to the heart of town. The two-story Mediterranean-style cottage at 217 Healdsburg Ave., which for years served as the public walk-in presence of the Chamber of Commerce, is for rent. Though small—it’s less than 700 square feet, 347 on the ground floor—its location could not be better for the right customer: Next door to the H2Hotel and a block’s walk from the Plaza.
Defeat Finally Comes to the Prune Packers
With their first road trip of the 2024 season, the Healdsburg Prune Packers found out what it was like to lose. Twice. Carrying an 18-0 record into their June 27 game at Harry David Field in Medford, Oregon, the Pack’s luck finally ran out. The home-team Rogues, who had been defeated by the Packers the previous five games, including two on their own home field, had at last had enough.
New EV Charges Planned to Close the Gap
Healdsburg has been coming up short some $37,000 annually on its EV charging program, the City Council learned a couple of weeks ago. For every $44,000 it costs for the electric chargers to operate, including the actual price per kilowatt hour to run the chargers, the city only collects $7,000 in fees.
