GLEN JEAN, WV (WVNS) — The United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development made a major investment into the White Oak Public Service District in Fayette County.

USDA Rural Development invested $1.6 million dollars into the Glen Jean Wastewater Treatment Facility which falls under White Oak PSD jurisdiction.

This is the latest in a line of investments into the PSD starting back in 2021.

Ryan Thorn, State Director of USDA Rural Development, said the department is laser-focused on improving rural infrastructure.

“The White Oak PSD $1.6 million dollar investment is a testament of that commitment because you know, if a community doesn’t have safe, reliable, clean drinking water and sewer services, that really acts as the foundation that other community and economic development is built from,” said Thorn. “So, if there’s not those basic services met in those communities it’s really hard to bring anything else to a community.”

Thorn said part of the money will be used to construct a lift station at the Glen Jean Wastewater Treatment facility in order to improve treatment processes.

The remainder of the funds will be used for repairs and upkeep in order to keep the facility in top working condition.

White Oak PSD has received more than $7 million in investments from Rural Development since 2021.
