    Baldenegro takes Glendale council seat Tuesday

    Glendale will conduct an installation ceremony for  new Ocotillo District council member Leandro Baldenegro on Tuesday, April 23 following the City Council voting meeting, which begins at 5:30.

    The installation ceremony is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.. Tuesday in the Glendale Civic Center,  5750 W Glenn Drive.

    During the main council meeting, the council will decide on an ordinance to annex an approximately 12.4-acre property on now in Maricopa County  at the southeast corner of Peoria and Sarival avenues.

    If approved, the property will be zoned C-1 (Neighborhood Commercial).

    Before that, the council will hear a resolution to amend the city's general plan map and an ordinance to rezone a property at 7448 N. 83rd Ave. from agricultural to single residence.

    If these actions are approved, the property on the northwest corner of Orangewood and 83rd avenues ll be divided into three single-family residences. The existing residence will be renovated and occupy one lot, while the two additional single-story, detached, proposed homes will occupy lots to the west.

    The council has a busy agenda at its 12:30 p.m. work session, also at the Glendale Civic Center. Workshop agenda items are:

    • Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Planning and Development (CPD) grant funding recommendations.
    • The first hearing of a proposed annexation on the southeast corner of 81st and Myrtle avenues. The site is approximately five acres, and the applicant wants to separate it into five parcels to develop a multifamily condominium townhome development.
    • A request to rename El Barrio Park as Veteranos Park.
    • Hearing the merits of to creating an ordinance to address repeat offenders of Glendale City Code Chapter 25 nuisances. Repeat offenders would be defined as having two compliance orders and/or citations at the same property in a 12-month period.
    • A monthly Downtown Campus Reinvestment Project update.
    • An update on improvments to Desert Diamond Arena.
