Velma Teague Library teams up with Drawn to Comics , downtown Glendale's source for comic books, gaming and collectibles, on Saturday, May 4, to bring another Free Comic Book Day experience.

This event, which Velma Teague Library and Drawn to Comics have collaborated on since 2018, offers activities for all ages. It will be mainly indoors at Velma Teague Library at 7010 N. 58th Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as inside the Drawn to Comics store across the street (5801 W. Glendale Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy local artists, select vendors, crafts, games, cosplay, and, of course, free comics galore. Comics will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and while supplies last.

Guests can meet comic book artists and buy custom creations from vendors. Live medieval combat demonstrations by the Kingdom of Umbria , will take place right outside the library in Murphy Park.

Parents can help kids create their own easy, geeky crafts and pose for photo ops with local cosplayers. Feel free to wear a costume.

Since the date falls on Star Wars Day this year, expect a touch of that galaxy far, far away in crafts, games, décor and guest cosplayers from the 501 st Legion Dune Sea Garrison .

“We are so excited to once again team up with the library to bring you all free comics, astounding artists, cosplay, entertainment and more!” stated Ken Brown, owner of Drawn to Comics, in a press release. “Run faster than a speeding bullet to downtown Glendale for the fun festivities with your super friends and family.”

Greg Kinder, administrative librarian for the city of Glendale, is also revved up about the offerings awaiting the public on Free Comic Book Day.

“Our ‘Wonder Twin powers’ from the Velma Teague Library and Drawn to Comics are activating to offer a celebration of comic books and pop culture that will super-charge your day and have you saying, ‘Holy Comic Book Day, Glendale.’” Kinder stated.

Dating back to 2002 in the United States and Canada, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday in May, during which time participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away exclusive comic books for free.
