Ironwood High School senior Mikah Dyer is one of only 20 seniors in Arizona to receive a 2024 Flinn Scholarship.

The Flinn Scholarship is valued at more than $130,000 to cover tuition, housing and meals at any public university in Arizona. It also includes two experiences to study abroad and access to a network of previous Flinn Scholars.

Dyer will attend Arizona State University studying secondary education with an emphasis in history and a minor in political science.

He hopes to use one of his study abroad opportunities to visit South America to immerse himself in a different culture and enhance his Spanish-speaking skills as he has taken five semesters of Spanish during his time at Ironwood.

“The support of my parents and the guidance of exceptional teachers in Peoria Unified have fueled my dedication,” Dyer stated in a press release.

Dyer has been involved on his high school’s Glendale campus as member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and has been a Peoria Unified School District student from kindergarten through his senior year.

When asked why he wanted to be a Flinn Scholar, Dyer stated, “It’s an opportunity to receive a world-class education and become an agent of discovery, creativity and leadership. The Flinn community, with its diverse and vibrant network, aligns with my goals of making a positive impact through education and community engagement.”
