Glendale council approves more ride choices

The city of Glendale now offers another flexible travel option to ADA Paratransit certified residents of any age who wish to travel outside the city boundaries.

Last week, the Glendale City Council approved a one-year RideChoice Pilot Program that Valley Metro will operate. These trips can be to doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, entertainment venues and other activities.

The pilot program began July 1 and runs through June 30, 2025. It will offer customers easier access to a larger network of ride share transportation providers, including Uber, taxicabs and other wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Customers may take 20 to 50 trips or travel 400 miles per month. For residents’ convenience, RideChoice is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.

The program assists residents those who are Americans with Disabilities Act Paratransit-certified, and geared toward Glendale residents who travel outside of the city.

RideChoice costs $3 for each one-way trip, up to eight miles. Additional miles beyond eight miles cost passengers $2 per mile. Passengers in the RideChoice program may obtain wheelchair-accessible service at no additional charge.

Riders may use cash, checking accounts, eWallet or credit or debit cards to pay their fares.

The pilot program will offer more flexibility and cost-savings for Paratransit-certified residents. Previously they could use Valley Metro Regional ADA Paratransit Service, which needed to be booked at least one day in advance. That service cost $4 per mile for the whole trip, regardless of length.
