Non-Fatal Shooting in Milwaukee's Autumn Ridge Apartments Under Investigation by Brooklyn Park Police
In the early hours of last Saturday, Milwaukee's Autumn Ridge Apartments became the scene of a shooting incident, where a male victim suffered two gunshot wounds. The Brooklyn Park Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the location at 8508 63rd Ave N following the emergency call at around 2:10 A.M. on June 29th. Upon arrival, law enforcement administered first aid to the victim, although his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

UWM alums hope to tackle Milwaukee health disparities through Health Equity Scholars Program
Two UW-Milwaukee alumni are among the inaugural cohort of a new program meant to address the health disparities that plague the Milwaukee community. Ciara Ayala, who graduated in 2020 with a double major in biological sciences and psychology, and Alex Martinez, who completed a major in biological sciences in 2020, have been accepted not just as students to the Medical College of Wisconsin, but as members of the newly-created Health Equity Scholars Program at MCW. As part of the program, they will receive full tuition for all four years of medical school, a housing stipend, psycho-social support, and specialized training that will have them working alongside members of the health care community.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson and other city officials joined Phillip’s son Michael for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The plaza is located at 401 W. Wisconsin Ave.Michale Phillips who joined us last month to talk about the project again praised a public art installation that will be part of the plaza’s future. After graduating from Howard University, Vel Phillips attended University of Wisconsin Law school, becoming the first African American woman to graduate there. She and her husband opened a law firm.
