WASHINGTON — It's been a historic year for Capitol Hill Little League. All three teams (12U, 11U and 10U) won their respective divisions and are DC champs. Now, Capitol Hill Little League is trying to represent the District at the Little League World Series. The younger teams are heading to Massachusetts and Rhode Island to play in regional tournaments, while the 12U team goes to Bristol, Connecticut.
NCPG Launches Tribal Advisory Council
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), the only national non-profit organization that seeks to reduce the economic and social costs associated with gambling addiction, has unveiled its newly established Tribal Advisory Council. Maryland READS introduces READ Strong Network to Queen Anne’s County
On June 27, Maryland READS launched the READ Strong Network in Queen Anne’s County. Education and community leaders across the county united to address Maryland’s reading challenges and collaborate on establishing a robust reading ecosystem to ensure all children achieve proficiency. More than 20 stakeholders, including school board members, educators, and nonprofit leaders, gathered at the Centreville branch of the public library for an event aimed at mapping out and initiating the development of a vibrant reading environment for the youth of Queen Anne’s County. Shannon Bent, vice president of the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education, opened the session with a heartfelt personal story and words of encouragement for all attendees. This event marks the first of several planned Read Strong Maryland gatherings statewide and the beginning of a transformative initiative in Queen Anne’s County.

The City of Alexandria celebrated its 275th birthday – or anniversary of its founding – on July 13 by hosting an event on the waterfront with fireworks, cupcakes and guest speakers. The city was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and that heritage is often celebrated throughout the year. City and state leaders alike joined in the festivities by passing out cupcakes to attendees. The night was capped off by a firework show on the Potomac River.
