Kole Taylor made big changes this offseason
Last season, West Virginia University tight end Kole Taylor caught 33 passes for 411 yards and four touchdowns. It was a respectable season for the LSU transfer, and he provided quarterback Garrett Greene a reliable option in the short and mid-range passing game. He underwent a minor procedure that caused him to miss the spring, but tight ends coach Blaine Stewart says Taylor is coming back bigger, stronger, and better than ever. UPD takes new safety precautions for the 2024 school year
In preparation for the fall semester, the University Police Department has implemented several initiatives to improve campus safety and communication with students. In a UPD campus community safety survey in April, many students, staff and parents reported feeling unsafe on WVU’s campus and in Downtown Morgantown. Survey results also showed that respondents wished to know more about the University’s safety procedures and see improved safety infrastructure on campus.

The 1995 WVU football season wasn’t a memorable one. West Virginia went 5-6 and never strung multiple wins together. Amid a losing season, however, a record was set. Lovett Purnell, a future inductee into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame, caught 37 total passes and six touchdowns — the most receiving touchdowns by a Mountaineer tight end.

Parkersburg High School teacher receives award from Acacia Fraternity
PARKERSBURG — A teacher at Parkersburg High School has received the Chapter Adviser of the Biennium Award from Acacia Fraternity. J. Scott Cleland also was elected as the international first vice president of the International Council during its conclave in Phoenix. Cleland will be entering his 15th year on the International Council, serving three previous terms as first vice president and one term as second vice president.

Proclamations, Spencer’s Landing talk loom large at Vienna meeting
VIENNA — Vienna City Council met Thursday at their regularly scheduled meeting. All were in attendance except for Councilman Roger Bibbee and Councilman Chris Mancuso. Council passed three proclamations with unanimous agreement. The first proclamation was to declare Sept. 16-20 National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. The goal was to increase literacy rates in the area to provide more opportunities for their futures.
