More Storms Tuesday & Wednesday, Lots of Heat This Week
OVERNIGHT: Monday afternoon started out a little hazy (due to wildfire smoke) but otherwise was mostly clear and warm, with highs in the 80s. During the evening hours, however, a line of storms pushed into southeastern ND, moving into the Red River Valley and Lakes Country overnight, bringing the threat of damaging winds and hail. Thankfully, after 5 AM, any leftover showers and storms are gone, leaving mostly clear skies for the morning commute. Temperatures will also be in the mid-60s, so overall, Tuesday morning is looking decent.
On paid family leave, more states follow Washington's lead
A number of states are joining Washington in offering paid family leave. Why it matters: Paid leave policies give new parents time to recover from birth and bond with their babies, while reducing financial stress on growing families. Driving the news: Last fall, Washington was one of only eight states...

Tax Court Digest: July 24, 2024
Appellants appealed correspondence from the Taxpayer Rights Advocate Office of the Commissioner (TRA) denying their request for reconsideration of an Offer in Compromise that the Collection Division of the Minnesota Department of Revenue previously denied. The Commissioner moved to dismiss appeal on the grounds that decisions of the TRA to issue or not to issue a taxpayer assistance order are final and not appealable to any court, including the tax court, under Minn. Stat. § 270C.37, subd. 6. The Tax Court agreed that the TRA decision was not appealable. Motion granted.
Law Enforcement Drone Leads Rescuers to Struggling Man in MN Lake
Sauk Centre, MN (KROC-AM News) - A law enforcement drone played a key role in a weekend water rescue in central Minnesota. A news release issued by the Sauk Centre Police Department says dispatchers handled a 911 call early Sunday morning concerning an intoxicated man who had jumped into Sauk Lake. The call came in just before 2:30 AM.
Twins catcher Christian Vazquez showed a ridiculously outside target against Javy Báez and of course it worked
For the money, there isn’t really a worse hitter than Tigers shortstop Javy Báez. He ranks near (or at) the bottom in virtually every hitting metric this season, and his abysmal plate discipline makes for an easy matchup whenever a pitcher gets Báez in a two-strike count.
Minnesota is getting a new area code, here's what you should know
ROCHESTER, Minn. — People calling from southern Minnesota could soon start popping up on your phone under a new area code. Final preparations are underway for the rollout of the new 924 area code, which will overlap with the current 507 area code serving southern Minnesota, including communities like Rochester, Austin, Mankato, Winona and Worthington. It will be the first such "area code overlay" in Minnesota; previous area code changes in the state involved carving out a new geographic region from a previous area code.
