Sunlight Mountain Resort near Glenwood Springs, Colorado, had an interesting announcement this week: "Segundo's Final Season."

If you've been following developments at Sunlight, this will be no surprise. The resort and the US Forest Service have been discussing the upgrades for years.

But this week's announcement seems to have sealed the deal.

"We are officially announcing that after this season, the legendary Primo and Segundo lifts will be replaced," the announcement said.

The Segundo lift is the oldest operational lift in Colorado. It was built in 1954 to serve Aspen Mountain, where it stayed until 1969.

Segundo was removed from the Ute City and taken to Sunlight in the early 1970s.

Its retirement and replacement with a triple chair lift represents a historic moment for Sunlight and the entire Colorado skiing community. It will be replaced with the Lenawee Chair which formerly served Arapahoe Basin. The Primo lift—a fixed grip double—will be an entirely new state-of-the-art quad lift.

Sunlight has been planning the upgrades for years, but only recently got everything lined up to make the improvements happen.

“We faced challenges a couple of years ago,” Marketing Director Matt Ericksen told the Glenwood Springs Post Independent . “That is on us. We put the information up prematurely and hopefully we can build back some of that confidence in Sunlight. The contracts and the legal obligations are done.”

The new lifts are expected to be ready to roll for the 2025–26 season.

    Nice work, Sunlight!
