Colorado Parks and Wildlife has announced that the Sam Caudill State Wildlife Area along the Roaring Fork River will be closed for an extended period of time.

With this state wildlife area centered around water activities located about four miles south of Glenwood Springs, the closure will be put in place on August 8, likely to extend into March 2025. The reason behind the closure is a number of improvement projects, including adding a new boat ramp, staging area, and entrance. The shoulder on the south side of the nearby road will also be widened. These improvements are being funded by sportsperson dollars and local grants.

During the closure, water vessels can still be launched from the boat ramp at the Bob Terrell State Wildlife Area near Carbondale. This will, however, mean that boaters should plan for extra time on the water as the next available boat ramp is in Glenwood Springs.

The Sam Caudill State Wildlife Area is located beneath the old Westbank Bridge where county roads 154 and 109 intersect.
