Long-awaited reboot Alien: Romulus is here and just as deliciously nasty as you’d expect from provocative filmmaker Fede Álvarez who takes the iconic Alien franchise back to its roots in space where no one can hear you scream.

“My ambition is for the generation who saw the original movie to love this film and for those who have never seen an Alien movie to be introduced to this incredible universe through our film,” said Álvarez in the production notes. “With any horror movie, you want the people to be terrified and have an experience that leaves them breathless.”

Álvarez, who also serves as co-writer and executive producer on the film, received a valuable co-sign from legendary director and father of the Alien franchise Ridley Scott who gave him notes after screening the film before anyone else.

“I was hugely relieved that it was potentially a huge film and I just said, ‘You don’t have to take a note, but I’ll tell you what I think.'” said Scott in an interview with THR .

We caught up with the dynamic director to talk the Sci-Fi thriller-chiller, unleashing the facehuggers, the Alien moment that shocked him, and more in our interview below:

In Alien: Romulus , a group of young space colonizers with dreams of escaping their depressing mining planet come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Check out the terrifying trailer below:

The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu who shine as the youngest ensemble cast to run for their lives in an Alien film.

Also worth noting is the film’s brilliant marketing campaign that featured facehuggers popping up everywhere ahead of the film’s release.

Alien: Romulus is now playing in theaters everywhere!
