A new survey conducted by BLK , the leading dating app for Black singles, reveals a surprising trend among Black Gen Z daters. This surprising statistic shows that a majority of the Gen Z generation has been practicing celibacy. Read more about this interesting fact inside.

BLK found that 43 percent of Black Gen Zers are currently practicing celibacy. The number is even higher among Black Gen Z women, with 64 percent embracing celibacy, and 63 percent of them have adopted this lifestyle within the last six months. This shift highlights a growing focus on mental well-being and personal growth, as many young Black singles navigate the complexities of modern dating.

The survey found that personal development (61 percent) and frustration with toxic dating culture are major factors driving this choice. Celibacy is helping Gen Z prioritize emotional health, with 66 percent of participants reporting improved mental and emotional well-being as a result.

Interestingly, 87 percent of respondents noted that celibacy either positively impacted their dating life or made no difference, challenging the assumption that abstaining from physical intimacy would hinder romantic success. Instead, many Black Gen Z daters are embracing celibacy as a tool for fostering deeper emotional connections in their relationships.

This trend is also mirrored by Black celebrities such as Omarion, Mya, and 50 Cent, who have publicly embraced celibacy, helping to destigmatize the lifestyle choice within the Black community. Their openness about prioritizing self-care and personal growth has inspired younger generations to consider celibacy as a valid option for fostering healthier relationships.

While 1 in 3 Black Gen Z daters believe celibacy is becoming more accepted, 43 percent still feel there’s a stigma within the broader Black community. Nonetheless, this movement toward celibacy is redefining dating norms, focusing on personal empowerment and emotional well-being.
