VDCI has scheduled an aerial larviciding application, weather permitting, for tomorrow, Friday, June 21st 2024. Saturday June 22nd will be a backup day. The areas to be covered include Andrews Island, southern and northern parts of Jekyll Island along with Skeeter Alley. Spraying will take place between the hours of 6:00am and 5:00pm.
Utility commissioners award $4.7 million water tower contract
The Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission voted Wednesday to approve construction of a new $4.7 million water tower at Exit 42 of Interstate 95. Utility commissioners voted unanimously to award the contract to Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors LLC of Indiana, which specializes in water tower construction. The contract comes with a 15-month timeline once work begins.
County commission campaign article slanted
I read your front page article about Robert Duncan in Saturday, June 16th’s, newspaper, and it looked more like a political advertisement for Amy Abbott than an impartial article. It was completely one-sided. Amy Abbott mailed out a political flyer a couple weeks ago attacking Robert Duncan. Very little of it if any was true and was either intentional or due to her complete lack of knowledge about how our government works.
Glynn police officer arrested for DUI
A Glynn County Police Officer was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence. Officer Devin Batten, 29, of Brunswick, was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol in Brunswick at around 3:30 a.m. on Altama Avenue at its intersection with Emery Dawson Boulevard, a press release from the Glynn County Police Department said.
Body Found Near East Beach
Glynn County Police are currently investigating the discovery of a dead man near East Beach, Saint Simons Island on Wednesday, June 19. The body was discovered by people near a trail in the area of East Beach. The man is believed to have been homeless, and there is no indication that foul play was a factor in the man’s death. However, the time and cause of death are both unknown and under investigation.

County tables transportation agreement with city
An intergovernmental agreement to provide planned public transportation outside Brunswick city limits was deferred at Thursday’s Glynn County Commission meeting. The decision to defer came after concerns were raised about the county’s obligation to support the program.
