The price of housing has become absurdly expensive, making it difficult to imagine the halcyon days of the post-WWII American Dream, when home ownership was a lot more affordable. Unfortunately, the cost of homes is projected to rise in the next five years.
Home prices going up, on average, not only because of a dwindling supply that cannot keep up with the soaring demand but because of some lasting impacts of the pandemic. One such impact has been dubbed the “Great Reshuffling” — the phenomenon of Americans moving during and after the pandemic thanks in part to the rise in remote work options.
In May 2023, RenoFi published a report that explored the effects the pandemic has had on the housing market and, incorporating those findings, projected what the average home in every U.S. state could be in September 2030. Here’s what the average home price could be by 2030, with states listed in order of highest to lowest projected home price.
The most expensive state in the U.S. was one of the least affected states by the pandemic. Its 2030 home average projection price was impacted by the pandemic by just 0.78%, according to RenoFi.
