Shopping for a new — or new to you — car opens a long highway of possibilities. While you might be tempted to go for the most stylish, emergency fund -draining fun car or one with horsepower to help you blow through the sound barrier, there’s one aspect of any dream car that can make lower maintenance costs and long-time ownership a reality: durability.
When GOBankingRates looked at affordable compact cars that will last 300,000 miles, the Toyota Corolla topped the list. Between its reasonable price of roughly $22,050 and its status as one of the most reliable cars on the market every year, it’s not hard to see why.
While the typical lifespan for a Corolla is about 200,000 to 250,000 miles, with care and proper maintenance, you could be cruising on to 300,000 miles.
Honda Civic
The Honda Civic has been around since 1972, and in that time, the car has become a steadfast vehicle for people who want an affordable compact car that is fuel efficient. That virtue also makes it a contender on our list of affordable compact cars that will last 300,000 miles .
2009 Honda S2000
If you’re looking for a used car that can carry you the distance — well, a roughly 300,000-mile distance — this Honda might meet your needs. It came in No. 1 in a GOBankingRates list of cars that could last for 300,000 miles, based in part on rave — or better yet, revved up — reviews from HotCars.
2017 Lexus ES
The Lexus ES was ranked second on the GBR list of cars that could last for 300,000 miles because of its high reviews and ability to “minimize trouble well past 300,000 miles.” The fact that it adds some chic appeal certainly doesn’t hurt.
Chevrolet Suburban
If buying American is one of your major priorities in buying a car, you’d do well to scan a GOBankingRates list of American cars that outlast the average import.
The Chevrolet Suburban was listed first, based on a review from iSeeCars that suggested the Suburban might actually be one of the longest-lasting American cars.
GMC Yukon XL
The GMC Yukon XL offers a full-size SUV with a full-size value, including copious driver features and robust interior length. TheStreet reported that the car has a potential lifespan of 252,360 miles and a 21.3% chance of lasting over 250,000 miles.
Toyota Tundra
However, aficionados of Japanese manufactured cars can also find a lot to like in the GOBankingRates list of cars that outlast the average American model.
This pickup truck ranked high in an iSeeCar study focused on durable cars, which gave it a 47.9% chance of making it to at least 250,000 miles or beyond.
Honda Pilot
The Honda Pilot was also acknowledged on the GOBankingRates list of cars that outlast the average American model . GOBankingRates reported that the car is one of the more durable SUVs available, with a 42.7% chance of making it to at least 250,000 miles.
With a potential lifespan of nearly 300,000 miles and overwhelmingly positive reviews from outlets like iSeeCars and Consumer Reports, it’s not hard to see why.
Toyota Land Cruiser
The Toyota Land Cruiser also ranked high on the list of cars that last longer than the average new vehicle, in part because of its durability. You can generally expect to get about 280,236 miles out of this ride — so, even if you find a used model with 100,000 or even 200,000 miles on it, there’s no reason not to give it a spin.
Ford F-350 Super Duty
There’s a reason why Ford is considered a classic car maker whose vehicles last the test of time.
According to the GOBankingRates list of cars that will outlast the average vehicle, the top-ranked Ford F-350 comes with a 49.1% chance of lasting over 250,000 miles.
Mazda3
The Mazda3 can be an unsung hero compared to the Mazda6 model, but it’s generally considered more affordable while also being quite durable. In a GOBankingRates list of affordable compact cars, the Mazda3 was singled out for its fuel efficiency and reliability.
