In 2022, U.S. household led by someone 65 or older spent an average of $57,818, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data. However, 40% of those same households typically spend less than $40,000 per year.
A new era calls for a new style. You might not think you have the disposable income for new clothes, but Quince offers great prices on luxury-quality items. Women’s tees start at just $15, and Quince uses sustainable materials like organic cotton, Mulberry silk and cashmere.
Kirkland Signature
You can’t have a list of affordable brands without talking about Costco’s in-house label. According to Consumer Reports, Kirkland Signature is almost always much cheaper than the name brands. If you’re a Costco member or considering a membership, you’re going to save quite a bit. Memberships start at $65 a year.
Another store brand that tops our list is from Target. Market Pantry is Target’s condiment brand. Yes, condiments seem like a small expense, but it really adds up. Here’s an example of how much Market Pantry discounts its products in comparison with name brands: a 20-ounce bottle of Market Pantry ketchup sells for $1.19, whereas a 14-ounce bottle of Heinz ketchup goes for $3.39. You’re paying almost three times the price and getting much less product. Next time you’re at Target, check out what Market Pantry has to offer.
Up&up
We’re not going to lie: Target has some heavy hitters. Their in-house household products brand up&up offers some very impressive deals. For example, for 500 tablets of ibuprofen from up&up with 200 mg each, it will cost you $7.99. For 100 tablets of Motrin (also 200 mg each of ibuprofen), you’ll pay $12.39. Because retirement might be a time where you need to stock up on pain relievers, definitely remember to opt for up&up over the name brand next time you’re at Target.
Hanes
Hanes makes many staples like undershirts, socks and underwear very affordable. If you’re at Target, you can pick up a six-pack of crewneck T-shirts for men for $17.60. That’s getting shirts for less than $3 each. You can also get a 10-pack of boxer briefs for $23.99. For women, Hanes is also a choice brand. You can get a three-pack of underwear for just $10.38. It’s pretty hard to beat getting quality underwear for less than $4 a pair.
Food 4 Less
If you live near a Food 4 Less, you can save a lot of money next time you go grocery shopping. The store offers weekly deals on top of already having low prices. At the time of writing, deals included a loaf of bread for $2, 20% off fruit snacks and $6 off Axe products.
Uniqlo
Another affordable way to buy clothes in retirement is to check out Uniqlo. Shoppers praise the brand for offering high-quality clothing at affordable prices. Right now, they have chino pants on sale for $39.90. Check out their sale section for some real steals, like $7.90 T-shirts and $14.90 cardigans.
The Ordinary
The skincare brand The Ordinary has been praised for both its effective formulations and its low price point in the pricey field of skincare. At Sephora, you can get a 30-millileter bottle of Argireline solution 10% serum for facial wrinkles for under $10. A product with the same active ingredient and same size bottle from Depology costs $49.
CeraVe
This is another budget brand you can find at any drugstore that cuts down on cost in the skincare category. You can get a 16-ounce tub of moisturizer for use on your face and body for just $19.99. At Sephora, 4.2-ounce container of a Clinique moisturizer will cost you $34. CeraVe also makes cleansers, body washes, eye creams, night creams and more.
Amazon Essentials
Amazon Essentials offers clothing for very affordable prices. Plus, if you have Amazon Prime, you might be eligible for even deeper savings or faster shipping. Some current deals include women’s cardigans for $25 and men’s dress shoes for $50.
If you’re shopping for grandkids, Amazon Essentials has a kid’s section, too. Some items in that section are selling for less than $10. Amazon Essentials also offers deals on luggage so you can look classy on your next trip.
