Apple is holding a special event September 9 that will most likely cover new products. Rumors say that we could see a new iPhone released, in addition to a new Apple Watch, according to 9to5mac.com — but nothing has been confirmed yet.

If you’re settling into retirement, new releases of Apple products could bring down the prices of previous versions, which is great news for your wallet. Here are some of the Apple items retirees should look into buying, especially if they happen to go down in price.

Money mistakes the super wealthy never make - that you might be doing now.

    iPhone SE

    Price: Starts at $429

The iPhone SE was named the best overall value phone for seniors by TheSeniorList. The phone is 5G compatible, which means you’ll experience fast downloads and easy FaceTime connection. TheSeniorList also praised its M3/T4 hearing aid compatibility and camera quality. The iPhone SE has Smart HDR 4, which automatically refines the contrast and lighting in your pictures.

The phone also has Portrait Mode, which expertly blurs the background so your subjects are captured beautifully. You can also take slow motion or time lapse videos with the iPhone SE. TheSeniorList also highlighted its intuitive interface and full app store access as other reasons that make it a great phone.

    Apple Watch SE

    Price: Starts at $249

The Apple Watch offers a lot of features that seniors can benefit from. The watch can deliver high and low heart rate notifications, irregular rhythm notifications and low cardio fitness notifications so that retirees can stay on top of their health. There is also fall detection that’s automatically activated for users over 65 years old, which generates an alert when you have a hard fall that can contact emergency services if needed.

You can also use the Emergency SOS feature which automatically calls emergency services if you need them quickly. The watch is also great for setting reminders to take medication or for other appointments.

    iPad

    Price: Starts at $349

The iPad is basically a command center that enables you to do everything from one device. You can text, FaceTime, read, stream content, play games and surf the web. With Touch ID, you can unlock accounts and pay for items easily without having to type in a password or get out your credit card. If you want a keyboard, the iPad attaches easily via magnet to Apple’s Magic Keyboard Folio, which goes for $99.

The Apple Pencil, which starts at $79, enables you to take notes or draw on your iPad easily and it attaches magnetically so you can always know where it is. You can also enable speech to type features on the iPad, so you can dictate exactly what you want to type without having to type anything yourself.

    AirPods

    Price: Starts at $129

AirPods give you up to 5 hours of listening time with a single charge. This is great for making phone calls and listening to music or podcasts. They connect seamlessly to all of your Apple devices, so anytime you’re near one of your devices, a notification will come up that allows you to automatically connect your AirPods. Charging is also easy with the wireless case. Just charging your AirPods for 15 minutes will give you three hours of listening time.

You can also use Siri on your AirPods without your iPhone. So, when you are wearing your AirPods, you can say “Hey Siri, call [person]” and your AirPods will start the call for you. You can also have Siri adjust the volume, access an app or answer a question for you.

AirPods are also programmed to help you hear better. Their speech-detecting accelerometer recognizes when you’re talking and works with a pair of beamforming microphones to filter out external noise. So, you can hear better and the people you’re on calls with can hear you better.

    HomePod

    Price: Starts at $299

The HomePod is a speaker that helps you connect to all of the Apple devices in your home. You can use it to get high-quality sound to listen to music or talk shows. The HomePod is known for its immersive sound and it’s even more enhanced with a second speaker if you want a real sound experience. The HomePod can connect with your Apple TV if you have one to bring out theater-level sound for your shows and movies.

Like with AirPods, you can use Siri with HomePod to do everything from set a timer to finding your devices. If you have other smart home devices, you can use the HomePod to lock your doors, turn off the lights or connect in any other way that your smart home devices allow.
