However, to make things a little more enjoyable, here are some splurges to consider when you vacation outside of the country .

Money mistakes the super wealthy never make - that you might be doing now.

    Comfortable Accommodations

When traveling abroad, you’re most likely spending most of your time outside of your hotel exploring. That might make you think spending a little extra on your accommodations is not overly important. However, after a long day on your feet, seeing all the city has to offer, you’ll be tired. Knowing you have a comfortable room and bed to return to is important.

In addition to the room itself, it might be worth paying a little extra to stay near the city center. After a long day, having a short commute back to your room will make things much easier.

    Quality Meals

One of the best things about traveling to other parts of the world is experiencing food from other cultures. While finding a fast food restaurant might be easier, it won’t provide you with the experience you’re looking for. Instead, do some research and find out where the locals enjoy eating. This will likely be outside the tourist areas, but it will give the authentic experience many are looking for.

    Transportation Upgrades

If you plan to move from place to place on vacation, it might be worth considering that when booking transportation. In Europe, much of your travel could be by train. Different train classes can provide a better experience. If planning an overnight train trip, consider splurging for a sleeper cabin. Being able to lie down instead of sleeping upright will allow you to arrive rested at your destination.

If you’re traveling from location to location by car, it might be tempting to book an economy car. While this will be cheaper, it might be tight, depending on how many people travel with you. Instead, consider upgrading to a midsize car to give you extra room.

    Local Art or Souvenirs

When you travel, you most likely purchase souvenirs to take home. While it can be tempting to shop in the tourist shops, most of the items they sell are cheaply made and won’t provide lasting value. Instead, consider spending a little more money on something local that’s handmade. When my family and I travel, we always buy a piece of artwork. It’s usually a copy, so it’s not as expensive, but it allows us to remember the trip when we look at it.

    Travel Insurance

While it might not seem like a splurge, purchasing travel insurance can provide peace of mind leading up to your trip. With travel insurance, you’ll be able to get your money back if you’re unable to travel for covered reasons. The cost is small, but it could save you a significant amount of money.
