GODDARD, Kan. (KSNW) — The City of Goddard is doubling and tripling some water rates starting in less than a month. The Goddard City Council approved the rate hike at its July 15 meeting.

People who live inside Goddard city limits will pay these new rates:

    • $10 monthly debt service fee (down from $10.88)
    • $16.50 a month for up to 2,000 gallons a month (up from $8.50)
    • $4.50 per 1,000 gallons for 2,001 to 5,000 gallons a month (up from $1.50)
    • $5.50 per 1,000 gallons for 5,001 to 10,000 gallons a month (up from $1.75)
    • $6.50 per 1,000 gallons for all water over 10,000 gallons a month (up from $2)

Goddard water users outside city limits and businesses will have different rates.

City staff told the Goddard City Council that the price hike would bring Goddard’s rates more in line with surrounding towns.

The rate adjustment will also rebuild the Water Reserve Fund. City staff says water well system failures have used up a lot of the money, and the fund would have been short starting in 2026.

The additional money will also fund infrastructure improvements and provide operating capital.

The new water rates go into effect on Aug. 20. Residents will see the extra cost on the Oct. 1 bill.

The City Council also approved charging residents a stormwater utility fee. The fee will be $3.50 for residents and $5.50 for commercial accounts. The money will help with city drainage issues and infrastructure.
