    Drowning on the Rogue on 4th of July

    On July 4 th , 2024 at about 3:30pm, the Curry County Sheriff’s Dispatch started receiving several 911 calls from the Lobster Creek area on the Rogue River, regarding a drowning in the Rogue River at that location.

    The Lobster Creek area is about nine miles east of Gold Beach, off of the

    Jerry’s Flat Road. Sheriff’s Deputies responded by vehicle and by boat to the location and Dispatch had paged Cal Ore Life Flight and Gold Beach Fire.

    A call was placed to Reach Air, who responded by helicopter. Sergeant Gray arrived in the marine boat and several first responders got on the boat and they started the search for the person who was being reported as drowned.

    The person was later identified as forty-two-year-old Rohithumar Godhani from

    Milipitas, Ca. Godhani was in the area recreating with his family when he entered the water for unknown reasons. The searchers in the boat located Godhani in six foot of water about a hundred yards down river from where he had gone in. Godhani had been submerged for almost an hour from the time he went under water to when he was located.

    CPR was started by medics and first responders on scene. Reach Air arrived and their flight medics continued lifesaving efforts, but in the end, Godhani was pronounced deceased.

    The Curry County District Attorney and the Curry County Medical Examiner were notified and authorized release of Godhani to Redwood Memorial out of Brookings. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office sends our condolences to the family and friends of Rohithumar Godhani.
