Schedule for Carmi-White County Back to School Nights
Teachers and staff at the Carmi-White County Schools are all gearing up for their Back to School Nights. Lincoln’s Back to School Night is Tuesday, August 13th from 6-7:00 pm. Pre-K, Early Childhood, and Kindergarten families can come and go. First grade will begin in their classrooms at 6:00 p.m.

One Way Singers to make final performance Sunday
The One Way Singers will make its final performance on Sunday at the morning worship service at the 1st Baptist Church on West Main Street in Salem. The group based at First Baptist was led by former Salem Community High School Band Director Doyle Combs and involved between 85 orchestra members and singers across the country as well as Canada and Mexico between 1971 to 1980.
Centralia man charged with robbery
A 25-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with robbery after allegedly taking a bicycle from another man. Two face aggravated battery to police officer charges following separate incidents
Two people have been charged in Marion County Court with separate aggravated battery incidents involving Centralia Police. 28-year-old Haley Nardone of West Warmouth in Salem was charged with aggravated battery for allegedly striking an officer in the head with a cup of water in an incident last Thursday. Police encountered Nardone when investigating a battery complaint. Nardone has also been charged with resisting or obstructing a police officer for allegedly refusing to have her hands placed in handcuffs.
Victim identified in Herrin murder investigation
HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – Illinois State Police have identified the victim in a murder investigation in Herrin. 58 year old Virginia Melton of Herrin was identified as part of the investigation. Melton was located with multiple gunshot wounds at a residence in the 3100 block of Weaver Road Saturday July 13.
Man faces multiple charges after home invasion in Carrier Mills
A man suspected of Home Invasion and attacking two residents in Carrier Mills, is now in custody. Police in Carrier Mills and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office participated in a joint detail that led to the arrest of 24 year old Tyrese Isbell. He was taken into custody near Elkville.

Prysmian’s Expansion Adds Jobs as Du Quoin Plant Looks to the Future
Sitting just off of U.S. Highway 51 on the south side of Du Quoin, sits a cable manufacturing plant that’s quietly been helping power some of the largest cities and states in the United States for decades. Prysmian, the world’s largest cable manufacturer, took over the Du Quoin plant from General Cable in 2018. Now, the company is making a major investment in Du Quoin, to the tune of $63.8 million to expand production, add employees, and ensure the plant’s future in Southern Illinois.
