Magnitude 4.1 earthquake rocks Southern California, felt in most cities large and small

    2024-05-02

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake jolted the area of Corona on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The seismic event rippled across a vast expanse, extending its tremors into West Los Angeles, Long Beach, Orange County, and even Santa Clarita.

The quake struck at precisely 1:49 p.m. with a reported depth of 1.5 km, hitting 9 km southwest of Corona. Initially, the earthquake was registered as a 4.5 magnitude, later revised to a 4.3, and finally settled at a 4.1 magnitude.

Although the earthquake elicited widespread concern, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries stemming from the seismic activity. This fortuitous outcome contrasts with the series of smaller quakes that occurred in the same area just a day prior.

On Tuesday, the region experienced several smaller tremors, including a pair of 2.8-magnitude quakes between approximately 7:30 and 7:40 p.m., followed by a magnitude 2.5 shaker at around 2 p.m.

In light of these recent seismic events, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and prepare for potential future earthquakes. Earthquake preparedness tips are being disseminated to help individuals and communities mitigate risks and ensure their safety in the event of another seismic occurrence.
